Bill 30: What Changes Will Be Made?

There will be some major changes happening this year in Occupational Health and Safety, as well as in the Workers Compensation Board, which will mean big changes for all companies. The purpose of Bill 30 is to improve worker safety, modernize workplace standards and practices, better align Alberta’s standards with the rest of Canada and to provide greater compensation and benefits to injured workers and their families.

Winter Driving Tips

Given the recent weather and road conditions in Edmonton, Alberta, what better time to discuss the do’s and don’ts of winter driving? Edmonton experienced an extremely high amount of vehicles collisions on January 11, 2018 due to the icy road conditions. Edmonton Police responded to over 70 property damage vehicle collisions and 5 injury collisions in a span of 4 hours. The majority of these could have been prevented by driving in a manner that is appropriate for the weather and road conditions. A fatality occurred: Now what happens?

What would happen if there was a fatality on one of my sites? That is probably a question that has kept many company owners awake at night. We’ve all seen the news reports of the unfortunate families and companies that do have the misfortune of knowing what happens. The number of fatalities accepted by WCB Alberta per year has increased significantly over the last 3 years. It has risen from 25 in 2015, to 26 in 2016, to 34 in 2017.
